
Sarah Jane Carrell was born June 27, 1845 in Francis, Madison, Missouri. Her parents were William Thomas Carrell and Dorothy Pectol.
She married David E. Miller on April 27, 1860 presumably at Camp Floyd, Utah. Sarah Jane and David had fourteen children, seven girls and seven boys. Only nine survived to adulthood. They resided for a time at Woodville, Jefferson County, Montana. She acted as a midwife for fifteen years, traveling for miles around by horse and buggy. It was reported that she brought her own children into this world. In their older years they lived in Salmon, Idaho near their daughter Annie Miller Gutzman.
After David died, Sarah Jane returned to Montana. She died on August 31, 1917 of "Ptomaine Poisoning from eating wilted lettuce from a tin bucket". She was buried In Butte in the Mount Mariah Cemetary. 1917 Montana Death Certificate
